Reunification Efforts Worth It Says Official

The Bundestag’s Commissioner for Victims of the SED (Socialist Unity Party of Germany), Evelyn Zupke, has expressed profound gratitude and joy in connection with the Day of German Unity. Speaking to the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, she emphasized that the struggles and challenges inherent in the reunification process have demonstrably benefited those who previously experienced political imprisonment.

Zupke underscored the significance of the day, noting that it represents a moment of both happiness and thankfulness. She also highlighted the crucial role of individuals who actively campaigned for freedom and self-determination within the former German Democratic Republic (GDR). Recognizing their contributions, she stressed that the Peaceful Revolution and the subsequent German Unity would not have been possible without their efforts. The commissioner emphasized the importance of remembering these individuals during the observance of this national holiday.
