German politician Tim Klüssendorf, designated as the new Secretary General of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), has announced plans to enhance the parliamentary process for the proposed extension of the rent brake by addressing certain aspects.
According to Klüssendorf, the goal is to curb so-called circumvention mechanisms, specifically mentioning furnished rentals, short-term rentals and the need for further discussion on these issues in the legislative process. He does not anticipate a conflict with the coalition partner, the Union, as they had previously reached an agreement on the rent brake in the coalition contract.
Both sides, Klüssendorf emphasized, share the objective of protecting tenants, enabling them to navigate the housing market effectively and keeping rents in a reasonable range. However, this is not currently the case in major urban centers, which is why legislative action is necessary.
