René Benko's Foundation Sells 360kg of Gold Worth 30M Euros

Real Estate Entrepreneur René Benko, once celebrated tycoon, continues to remain in detention. His request for release was denied and he will remain in jail until at least June 10th. However, despite his detention, his financial machinations seem to be continuing.

According to reports by the Kronen Zeitung, Benko’s foundation, the Vaduz-based “Ingbe” Foundation, sold 360 kilograms of gold in mid-March. The total value of the metal is approximately 30 million euros. The gold was stored in a vault in Liechtenstein and transferred to countries that are beyond the reach of European judicial authorities.

Investigators are concerned that this sale took place without a clear economic background. Speculations range from asset transfers to preparing for a potential escape. If Benko has access to these funds, he could attempt to flee to another country after his possible release.

According to a document obtained by both the Kronen Zeitung and News, there is an increased risk of flight for the authorities. Therefore, the Economic and Corruption Prosecutor’s Office is closely monitoring the situation.
