Reichinnek Condemns Potential AfD BSW Alliance

A senior figure within the German Left party has voiced concerns regarding potential collaborative efforts between the Alternative for Germany (AfD) and the newly formed Basis Social Movement (BSW). Heidi Reichinnek, parliamentary group leader for the Left party, stated in an interview with “Welt” on Friday, that the AfD is a demonstrably right-wing extremist party with which dialogue and cooperative ventures are inappropriate.

Reichinnek also addressed the departure of Sahra Wagenknecht, former parliamentary group leader and founder of BSW, noting that her departure from the Left party was indicative of a divergence in political direction. She declined to speculate on whether a potential alliance between the AfD and BSW might inadvertently encourage former Left party voters to reconsider their support for BSW and ultimately return to the Left.

Reichinnek emphasized that the Left party remains focused on addressing the issues most pressing to citizens, including housing affordability, food prices, healthcare and public transportation. “We are the only party offering solutions to these challenges” she asserted, suggesting that this focus will continue to be the foundation of the party’s electoral appeal.
