Regensburg's Late Header Lands Them in Third League; Cologne Hangs on for Draw

On the 32nd day of the 2nd Bundesliga, 1. FC Cologne played against Jahn Regensburg at home and ended the game with a 1:1 draw, effectively sealing the guests’ descent.

At the beginning, the team from Bavaria held their own well: In the second minute, Pollersbeck deftly cleared a ball from Wurm away from the post and in the 19th minute, Ernst tested Schwäbe with a free kick from 15 meters.

The Effzeh gradually gained control, but real chances were scarce. Consequently, the disappointed crowd had no goals at halftime.

After the second half, the Geißböcke continued to struggle until the 59th minute: Waldschmidt’s cross was headed in perfectly by Lemperle against Pollersbeck’s direction.

Rondic could have made it clear in the 73rd minute, but Ziegele cleared the ball off the line with his boot, saving the shot of the attacking player. This led to what was inevitable in the 75th minute: Suhonen’s cross was headed in by Ganaus towards Schwäbe, but he was still able to make a save in the follow-up shot.

The Struber team desperately tried to score, but the outcome remained a disappointing point-sharing. With this result, Cologne now has only three points of safety from the relegation spot, while Regensburg has secured their spot as the last team in the 3rd league.
