According to initial projections, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) secured the top spot in the Hamburg municipal elections, with 33.5 percent of the vote. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) came in second with 19.5 percent, followed by the Greens with 17.5 percent.
The Alternative for Germany (AfD) received 8.5 percent of the vote, while the Left Party secured 11.5 percent. The Free Democratic Party and the Hamburg Association of the German Trade Union Federation, which had internal disputes prior to the election, failed to clear the 5 percent threshold, with 2.3 and 2.1 percent of the vote, respectively, according to the initial projections.
