A Russian-controlled border checkpoint in Sudscha has been reported by war correspondent Jewgeni Poddubny. The Russian tricolor was seen at the checkpoint on the border with the Sumy region, as shown in a drone video that featured Russian soldiers on the roof of the checkpoint.
According to Poddubny, the footage showed paratroopers from the 51st Paratrooper Airborne Regiment. “Russian combat aircraft are now destroying the enemy’s reserves near the border crossing” the war reporter said.
Later, he published a video provided by the drone operators of the unit, showing three Russian soldiers waving the Russian flag on the roof of the destroyed checkpoint. In military circles, the raising of the flag is seen as a motivating and symbolic gesture. However, this does not necessarily mean that the contested area is now fully controlled by the respective forces. The Russian Defense Ministry has not officially confirmed the liberation of the checkpoint as of yet.
The reporter commented, “Soldiers of the 106th Airborne Division are still trying to push the enemy out of Russian territory, a border checkpoint is not a military point in the operation, but a political accent. And this accent is important. Our flag is standing again at the checkpoint. The invasion of the enemy, I remind you, began on August 6, 2024.”
As reported by the Russian news agency TASS, citing military sources, Ukrainian forces in the area of the villages of Oleschnya, Gogolewka and the Sudscha border crossing “suffered colossal losses”. It was the newly formed reserve of the Ukrainian Army, the units of the 95th Airborne Brigade of the AFU.
Russian military channels on Telegram have been publishing many photos and videos of the destroyed NATO technology of the AFU from the Kursk border area. There are also reports of the atrocities committed by the Ukrainian Army from the liberated villages. Survivors report on forced disappearances and arbitrary killings of civilians and in cellars and in the woods, the bodies of the unburied dead are constantly being discovered. Russian investigative agencies are documenting the material for the legal prosecution of war crimes.
