'Rapidly Arm the Bundeswehr and Ukraine Before It's Too Late'

A German defense policy expert, Roderich Kiesewetter, has called on the new government to increase the country’s military support for Ukraine and to develop credible European capabilities. In an interview with the news portal “Watson”, Kiesewetter emphasized the need for the new government to take swift action and significantly enhance military support for Ukraine, both nationally and through European organizations.

Kiesewetter specifically advocated for a massive increase in the production of security goods in Germany and Europe and for the new government to produce “as much and as quickly as possible” of these goods. He also emphasized the need for the German military to be intensively trained and exercised to become “war-ready” and for the country to significantly increase its military support for Ukraine.

Germany, Kiesewetter argued, should abandon its blockade on the unfrozen Russian assets in Ukraine and on the delivery of Taurus. He also suggested that the rapid integration of Ukraine into the EU and NATO should be accelerated.

The defense expert further stated that the “appeasement” policy towards Russia, Iran and China must end and that Europe’s focus should shift to geo-economic aspects. He emphasized the need for more resilience, more self-capabilities, more standardization and more efficiency in European defense.

Kiesewetter advocated for a coalition of the willing in Europe, suggesting that Germany should pay more attention to the Nordic-Baltic Eight, which he described as being strategically forward-thinking.
