Rainbow Flagging on Reichstag Building for Pride Day

Bundestagspräsidentin Julia Klöckner announces Rainbow Flag Flying on Reichstag Building on Saturday

Bundestagspräsidentin Julia Klöckner (CDU) has announced that the Reichstag building will be adorned with a rainbow flag on Saturday. This decision follows the Bundestag’s resolution in 2002, which extended the Nazi Abolition Act to include the invalidation of trials against homosexuals during the Nazi era, symbolically on May 17th.

According to Klöckner, “This year, I will also fly the rainbow flag on the Reichstag building alongside the national flag and the European flag on May 17th.” The significance of this date lies in the fact that in 1990, the World Health Organization (WHO) removed homosexuality from its list of diseases.

Klöckner further emphasized that the rainbow flag will only be displayed on this occasion and should not extend to the Christopher Street Day, which is a day of assembly, protest and celebration that is best expressed by the people themselves. “The black-red-gold national flag represents the Basic Law and thus also the right to sexual self-determination and against discrimination” Klöckner stated.
