Railway Revolution: Bavaria's Plan to Transform the Brenner-Nordzulauf and Revolutionize European Train Travel!

Bayern’s Transportation Minister Backs Anwohnerfreundliche Approach to Brenner-Nordzulauf Development

Bayern’s Transportation Minister, Christian Bernreiter of the Christian Social Union (CSU), has expressed support for an anwohnerfreundliche (neighbor-friendly) approach to the development of the Brenner-Nordzulauf, a crucial rail infrastructure project in the region.

Speaking to the Mediengruppe Bayern, Bernreiter emphasized the importance of careful planning and foresight in determining the route of the new rail track. “The route is a century-long decision and it must be made with meticulous care and a long-term perspective” he said. He also highlighted the need for a largely underground track, comprehensive noise reduction measures and the protection of the region’s natural landscape.

Bayern is committed to the development of the Brenner-Nordzulauf, Bernreiter stressed, as it is essential for the state’s economy and international rail connectivity. He welcomed the new federal government’s commitment to increased investments in the rail network and improved connections to European neighboring countries, as outlined in the coalition agreement.

The minister also pointed out that the completion of the Brenner-Basis-Tunnel, connecting Tirol and Südtirol, will bring benefits to the rail traffic in and out of Bayern. “This will lead to a shift in traffic towards the rail network” Bernreiter said. However, the full potential of the Brenner-Basis-Tunnel can only be realized when the connecting tracks are completed and more rail tracks are available on the entire Munich-Verona route.
