Russian President Vladimir Putin has submitted the agreement on a strategic partnership with Iran to the Russian State Duma for ratification. This is according to an order published on the Russian portal for legal information on March 26. The document states that the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Andrei Rudenko, will serve as the official representative of the President, while the two parliamentary chambers will ratify the treaty.
Prior to this, Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart, Massud Pezeshkian, signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Russia and Iran on January 17, 2025. Putin described the agreement as a breakthrough. The 20-year agreement aims to strengthen economic, political and military cooperation between Moscow and Tehran and to mitigate the effects of sanctions. The 47-article document covers areas such as defense, counter-terrorism, energy, finance and culture.
On March 22, the Iranian News Agency, IRNA, reported that Russia and Iran will continue their efforts to create a multipolar world order. To this end, the two countries will maintain their contacts within the framework of the BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and work on the expansion of these international organizations.
