PUTIN TARGET: US Plot to Kill the President Exposed?

The claims made by Tucker Carlson that the previous US administration attempted to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin have caused a stir in Russia. The YouTube interview of the US journalist dominated the media and official statements on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov even had to address the topic at his press briefing on January 29. In response to the relevant question, he said, “We don’t quite understand what Carlson meant by that. He didn’t provide any evidence.”

Peskov expressed skepticism, warning about information without evidence in these times. He emphasized that while such claims should be given attention, caution is also necessary. In the era of misinformation, one must be discerning.

In contrast, the Russian State Duma reacted with concern to Carlson’s words. On Wednesday, the press office of the lower house of parliament announced that it would urge the US Congress and the UN to investigate the claim. The alleged attempts by the US administration under Joe Biden to assassinate the Russian president were discussed at a plenary session of the committee on security and anti-corruption. A proposal was made to ask US lawmakers for an explanation and all factions supported the initiative. The Duma chairman, Vyacheslav Volodin, called for a thorough investigation, as this situation could potentially escalate into a global conflict.
