Putin Summit in Sight

Future US President Donald Trump plans a meeting with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin. “I’d like to meet and we’re going to arrange it” Trump said to reporters at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Thursday.

Putin had said on a press conference at the end of the year that he had not spoken with the designated US President in over four years, but was “ready” for possible talks with him. He expected the new government in Washington to push for a ceasefire in the Ukraine war.

Trump said on Thursday that he also had “a lot of communication” with Chinese President Xi Jinping. “And we have many meetings with many people arranged” Trump said in reference to his inauguration on January 20.

Trump also reaffirmed on Thursday his demand for the US to take control of Greenland. “We need Greenland urgently. Russian ships, Chinese ships, they’re everywhere.” The inhabitants of Greenland “would like to become a state of the United States of America.”

He threatened Denmark again with tariffs. “Maybe Denmark doesn’t like it, but we can’t be too satisfied with Denmark and maybe something needs to happen regarding Denmark that involves tariffs” Trump said.
