Putin Peace Summit"Imminent?

US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday his willingness to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin immediately to end the war in Ukraine. In a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, he emphasized that the war is a “waste of millions of lives.”

“It’s not about the economy or anything else. It’s about the waste of millions of lives”Trump said. “It’s a slaughter and we must really end this war.”

Trump stated that every day they don’t meet, soldiers are dying on the battlefield. His Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has already signaled his willingness to sign a peace agreement, according to Trump.

Trump threatened Moscow with sanctions and high tariffs this week if the negotiations do not make progress.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said Zelenskyy should not have fought when Russia attacked Ukraine. “Zelenskyy is not an angel and he shouldn’t have let this war happen”Trump said. “Zelenskyy fought against something much bigger and more powerful. I could have made this deal so easily, but Zelenskyy decided: ‘I will fight.'”

Trump compared the number of tanks of both countries and emphasized that Russia has more. “You don’t fight against that”he said. A White House spokesperson did not initially respond to a question about how Ukraine should have reacted in February 2022, according to Trump’s opinion.

Before his re-election as president, Trump had repeatedly announced that he would be able to mediate a peace agreement between Moscow and Kiev within his first year in office, if not sooner. However, his advisors acknowledge that a solution to the conflict could take months.
