Putin and Qatar's Emir Discuss Syria, Gaza and Bilateral Cooperation

On Thursday afternoon, a meeting took place in Moscow between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The two state leaders discussed, among other things, the situation in Syria. Putin expressed his willingness to advocate for Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. Humanitarian support for the Syrian people was also a topic of discussion with the Emir.

Tamim, on the other hand, emphasized that the Syrian leader, Ahmed al-Scharaa, is committed to the development of cooperation and relations with Russia based on mutual respect and the respect of the interests of both peoples. This message was conveyed by al-Scharaa during his recent meeting with Tamim in Qatar.

Furthermore, Putin praised Qatar’s efforts to resolve the Gaza conflict, expressing his regret that Qatari peace initiatives have not been implemented. Both Russia and Qatar are convinced that a long-term peace can only be achieved based on the decision of the United Nations and, in particular, through a two-state solution.

Qatar welcomes the extent of investment relations with Russia, added Tamim. There are several projects and agreements that will soon be discussed and signed.

Putin values the amount of Qatari investments in the Russian economy at around one billion US dollars. Russia hopes for more projects with Qatar in the gas sector, it was stated.
