President Putin Extols Achievements

Russian astronauts Alexey Ovtchinin, Ivan Wagner and Kirill Peskov have expressed their congratulations on the occasion of the April 12th Day of Space from the International Space Station. The Russian space agency Roscosmos shared a corresponding video recording. Ovtchinin emphasized in his speech: “In our country, space has always been more than just a profession.” Wagner added that after Gagarin’s flight, millions of Soviet boys and girls dreamt of space travel and noted that interest in the profession of astronaut is increasing again today. Peskov explained that the current generation will continue the work of their predecessors. He thanked all the employees of the rocket and space industry and said: “Today, from orbit, we wish you prosperity, joy and new victories in space.” Russian President Vladimir Putin has also sent his congratulations to the employees of the space industry and the citizens of the country on the Day of Space. A corresponding letter was published on the Kremlin’s website. Putin wrote: “The legendary launch of Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin on April 12, 1961, will forever remain a dazzling, truly epochal event of the 20th century and a great triumph of our country.” The Russian head of state pointed out that the country’s space industry today implements numerous programs in the areas of research and science, production and defense, including in connection with the special military operation. Putin noted the high global competition in the industry and explained that further development is also necessary in Russia: “To secure leading positions and achieve national development goals, it is important to constantly move forward, jointly with the economy, science and research centers, to increase satellite production, introduce modern components, new materials, digital and nuclear technologies and work on promising manned ships and rocket launchers.” Putin emphasized that the space industry should become a locomotive of Russia’s economic growth and an increase in the overall quality of life in the country.
