A recent survey conducted by the Bitkom, the German IT industry association, reveals a growing awareness and tentative engagement with artificial intelligence amongst the German workforce. The findings, released on Monday, indicate that 20 percent of employed individuals have already received AI training provided by their employers.
However, a further six percent have access to such programs but have yet to participate. The majority – 70 percent – of the workforce currently do not receive any AI-related training from their companies.
The survey suggests a widespread anticipation of significant shifts in the working landscape due to AI’s growing influence. Notably, 14 percent of respondents believe AI has the potential to completely replace them in their current roles. An even larger portion, 33 percent, predict that AI could eventually supersede their managers.
Bitkom Research conducted the telephone survey between March 11th and March 15th, 2025, gathering responses from 1,005 individuals aged 16 and above across Germany, including a sample of 513 employed individuals. The data paints a picture of an evolving workplace, where AI’s impact is becoming increasingly tangible and prompting reflection on the future of work.
