German Politician Warns Against Questioning of Arms Supplies to Israel
Andrea Lindholz, the Deputy President of the German Bundestag and a member of the Christian Social Union (CSU), has urged the CDU and its coalition partner, the Social Democratic Party (SPD), to maintain a clear stance of solidarity with Israel and not question arms supplies to the country.
Lindholz expressed her concerns about the humanitarian situation in Gaza, stating that it is crucial to balance human responsibility with strategic clarity. She warned that any doubts about Germany’s support for Israel would send a wrong signal and instead, the country should maintain its commitment to the Jewish state’s defense capabilities.
The CSU party leadership has been critical of the approach taken by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul and the SPD, with Wadephul and some SPD politicians questioning further arms supplies to Israel. In contrast, the CSU has unanimously rejected such criticism and reaffirmed its commitment to a solidary policy towards Israel, according to sources within the party.
