A shooting incident in the United States has left a Minnesota state representative and her husband dead, while a senator and his wife were injured in a separate, but related, attack.
Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota announced on Saturday morning that the shooting of Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark appears to be a politically motivated attack. The couple was found dead at the scene.
Senator John Hoffman and his wife, who were also targeted, were shot multiple times, but are expected to survive, according to the governor. The senator and his wife are currently undergoing treatment and are described as being in a cautiously optimistic condition.
A large-scale manhunt is currently underway to locate the shooter, according to Mark Bruley, the police chief of Brooklyn Park, who is leading the investigation.
