A woman, who on Saturday attacked several pedestrians with a knife in Munich and was subsequently shot by the police, had already drawn attention to herself beforehand.
According to the police, who released the information on Sunday, the 30-year-old woman had already caused a commotion at a nearby supermarket near the Theresienwiese at around 6:40 pm. When the responding officers arrived, the woman had positioned herself in a threatening manner, with her fists clenched, against the police officers. As a result, she was initially restrained by being handcuffed.
Subsequently, she was taken to Police Station 14, where an identity check was conducted on her person. The 30-year-old woman eventually calmed down in the police station’s offices. She was released at around 7:15 pm, as “there were no grounds for detention or any other form of retention” according to the authorities.
Just a half hour later, the woman attacked several people with a knife. The woman was shot by the police during the attempted apprehension and was then taken to a hospital, where she soon passed away. The Bavarian State Criminal Police Office took over the investigation into the use of firearms.
