German Politician Criticizes Green Youth Leader’s Police Remarks
In a strongly worded statement, Omid Nouripour, Vice President of the German Bundestag and a member of the Green Party, has condemned the remarks of Jette Nietzard, the leader of the Green Youth, regarding the role of the police in Germany. Nouripour, in an interview with the German newspaper Bild, expressed his disapproval of Nietzard’s comments, stating that they are not in line with the rules of the Bundestag, where all members are expected to adhere to the same standards.
Nouripour’s criticism was in response to a social media post by Nietzard, in which she shared a photo of herself wearing a sweater with the slogan “ACAB” (All Cops Are Bastards) and accused the police of being “structurally racist.” A spokesperson for the Green Party’s federal executive committee told Bild that Nietzard’s remarks were not representative of the party’s policies, which are well-known. Nouripour echoed this sentiment, stating that the police work daily to ensure the safety of the public and that such a generalization of the police force is not only unacceptable but also empowers a negative and harmful attitude.
