Police to Introduce Valor Medals?

Federal Police considers introducing merit and other distinction medals.

Additionally, employees are to be allowed to wear fabric patches with Velcro fasteners on their uniforms, which represent a specific unit or activity, according to the “Spiegel”. Both are intended to better meet the “great need” of staff for identification with the authority, as stated in a letter from the Federal Police Presidency.

While the fabric patches are already described as a “paradigm shift” the matter seems to be essentially decided, the case of the orders and honor badges is about a “first assessment” in the Federal Police Directorates, as to how they stand on this.

Special fabric patches are currently only allowed for the GSG 9 and the airborne personnel of the Federal Police, as well as mountain guides and paratroopers. There were previously only individual orders and honor badges for special operations, such as the Oder Flood or the “Afghanistan Spange” for foreign deployments in the Hindu Kush.
