In southern Brandenburg, a police officer was run over and fatally injured on Tuesday during operations against car thieves.
According to the police, the 32-year-old officer from Saxony was trying to control a suspicious vehicle in the context of cross-border searches for motor vehicle crime in Lauchhammer, Oberspreewald-Lausitz district, as part of a joint operation with neighboring states. He was then hit by the vehicle. Despite immediate medical help and the deployment of a rescue helicopter, the officer died at the scene.
Three suspects were provisionally arrested, and their identities still need to be clarified, the police said. The investigations were ongoing. Experts from Dekra were called in to reconstruct the events.
