German Greens Leadership in Bavaria Distances Itself from Party Youth Chief’s Controversial Post
In a letter to police officials, the leadership of the German Greens in Bavaria has distanced itself from the party’s youth wing president, Jette Nietzard, over a social media post that sparked widespread outrage. According to a report by the Spiegel, the controversy revolves around a selfie posted by the Greens’ federal chair, featuring a sweatshirt with the “ACAB” (All Cops Are Bastards) slogan.
The leaders of the party’s parliamentary group, faction and the state’s interior policy spokesperson, Katharina Schulze, Florian Siekmann, Eva Lettenbauer and Gisela Sengl, expressed their disapproval of the post, stating that they do not share this form of appearance and explicitly condemn it. They also urged a clear apology from the party’s youth wing president.
Noting the daily, often challenging and indispensable work of the police for society, the Bavarian Greens thanked the law enforcement agency for their efforts. Meanwhile, the party’s interior politicians are concerned that the incident may damage the party’s relationship with the police and security authorities.
Despite the public criticism, the youth wing president, Jette Nietzard, has yet to issue an apology, fueling fears among the party’s inner circle that the controversy may have a lasting impact on the party’s relations with the police and security forces.
