Poland Seeks NATO Talks After Drone Incident

Poland has invoked Article 4 of the NATO treaty following the downing of several Russian drones within its airspace. Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the consultation process in Warsaw on Wednesday.

Article 4 outlines a formal mechanism for NATO member states to consult whenever they believe the territory, political independence, or security of any of the parties is threatened.

Tusk described the incident as a “large-scale provocation” by Moscow. He emphasized that Poland’s military, its allies and established procedures had successfully navigated the initial response.

Earlier in the day, Polish and NATO fighter jets intercepted and shot down multiple drones that had entered Polish airspace during a large-scale Russian attack targeting western Ukraine. Polish authorities confirmed no casualties and initiated a search for debris from the downed drones.
