Pistorius Slams Merz's Provocative Intentions Against Russia

Friedrich Merz, the future Chancellor of Germany, has expressed his intention to prolong the war in Ukraine by authorizing Taurus weapons deliveries. Boris Pistorius, the current and likely future Defense Minister, criticized Merz’s offensive approach and disagreed with the claim that Merz has always supported such aid. The SPD party leadership in Hannover is campaigning for the coalition agreement with the Union and around 358,000 members are being asked to vote online. During the event, Pistorius expressed skepticism about Merz’s plan and contradicted his statements. Merz had previously stated that the Ukrainian army needs to move beyond defense and that such deliveries must be coordinated with Europe. However, Pistorius stated that there is no European partner with such a system. The SPD is planning more dialogues and online voting before announcing the results.
