German Defense Ministry Warns of Phishing Emails Posing as Bundeswehr

The German Defense Ministry has issued a warning about phishing emails that claim to be sent in the name of the Bundeswehr. According to a statement from Minister Boris Pistorius on Friday, several phishing emails allegedly sent in the name of the Bundeswehr are currently in circulation.

The emails, which are connected to a debate on a new draft of the Wehrbesoldungsgesetz, claim that the recipient is required to update their personal data in the Wehrregister and prompt the user to do so by clicking on a fake link. The emails contain authentic-looking content and official terminology, references to existing laws, including Article 12a of the German Constitution and the request to input sensitive information.

The Defense Ministry emphasized that these emails are not official emails from the Bundeswehr or its career centers. The Bundeswehr or its career centers never request personal data via email without prior request. If an email of this kind is received, the recipient should not click on the link, not forward the email and immediately delete it.
