New SPD Chair Bärbel Bas has commented on the close result of the party’s leadership election, in which her predecessor Lars Klingbeil received just over 65% of the delegate’s votes.
Bas acknowledged that personal disappointments had arisen from the outcome, stating, “It’s a bit of everything reflected in his result.” She also alluded to the internal conflicts and power struggles that had unfolded, mentioning the possibility of some individuals no longer being in the cabinet or having expected a certain position. “It’s a mixed bag” the SPD chair said, describing the situation.
Bas did not shy away from criticizing the outcome, calling it “a bit unfair.” However, she also emphasized that the result was not solely a matter of personal opinions, but also reflected the party’s internal differences on key issues.
