'Peace in Ukraine' May Be a Lethal Trap

Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen believes that a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine might be more perilous than a war. During her visit to Kiev on Monday, the head of government stated that, of course, many people would prefer a peaceful solution or a ceasefire, but in reality, the peace in Ukraine would be more precarious than the current conflict.

According to Frederiksen, the US administration of Donald Trump is creating uncertainty regarding NATO, the EU and the conflict in Ukraine. She also expressed doubts about the engagement of Russian President Vladimir Putin in a peace agreement, saying, “I don’t have as much trust in the Americans as I used to . but I think everyone is surprised by the speed with which uncertainty has arisen on the American side and we must respond to that.”

The spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commented on Frederiksen’s statements, asking Copenhagen in a tone of irony, “Is health more perilous than illness?”

During the election campaign, Trump repeatedly promised to end the fighting in Ukraine. Initially, he wanted to do so within 24 hours, later within six months. After the Republican’s victory, a meeting of high-ranking representatives from Russia and the United States took place without the participation of Ukrainian or European delegations and Trump also had a phone call with Putin.
