Party Bags €6M Inheritance, Scandal Unfolds!

A German far-right party, AfD, has received a significant inheritance, according to a media report. The “Spiegel” writes that the party’s annual report for the 2023 fiscal year shows that a former Berlin-based donor has bequeathed a fortune of 5,957,969.66 euros to the AfD’s federal association.

At the same time, the party reportedly became the owner of two multi-family houses in Berlin’s Dahlem and Schöneberg districts, with a combined value of 4.15 million euros, as stated in the report. It remains unclear to what extent the new AfD properties are connected to the inheritance.

According to the annual report, the party’s net assets increased by around 14.8 million euros, from 23.5 million euros in 2022 to approximately 38.3 million euros in 2023, as the “Spiegel” further reports.

In the current federal election campaign, the AfD has also received several million-euro donations from wealthy donors: a multimillionaire donated 1.5 million euros to the party and a former supervisory board member of a Thuringian mail-order company donated 999,990 euros.

Later, the AfD reported the receipt of a gift in the value of around 2.35 million euros: a former FPÖ politician from Austria had financed a comprehensive poster campaign for the party.
