German CDU Politician Friedrich Merz Plans Overseas Trip
Friedrich Merz, a candidate for the Chancellorship of Germany, has already planned his first overseas trip in the event of his election as Chancellor. According to an interview with the German newspaper “Bild am Sonntag”, Merz intends to visit French President Emmanuel Macron and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk first. “We must work more closely together in Europe. Therefore, as Chancellor, I would travel to Paris and Warsaw initially, if possible on the same day” Merz stated.
Merz emphasized the importance of improving German-French friendship and a close relationship with Poland. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) reportedly considers Poland a significant partner in the east, bordering Ukraine and France a traditionally important partner in the west.
