Tottenham Hotspur have secured a loan deal for Portuguese international João Palhinha from FC Bayern Munich, with an option to purchase the midfielder. The agreement, announced Sunday evening by Bayern, runs until the summer of 2026.
Palhinha, who joined Bayern Munich from Fulham just last summer, has struggled to secure consistent playing time in Munich. Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, stated that the move to Tottenham Hotspur represents a positive outcome for all parties involved, allowing Palhinha to gain valuable experience at the highest level of international football.
“João Palhinha unfortunately didn’t achieve the hoped-for game time at FC Bayern last season. With Tottenham Hotspur, we have found the best solution for everyone. João can play a full season at international top level there. We wish him all the best for the upcoming season” Eberl commented.
Initially a target for then-Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel a year prior to his arrival, Palhinha made 25 appearances across all competitions for Bayern last season, contributing to the club’s triumph in the German Bundesliga. His contract with Bayern Munich remains in effect until June 2028. He will reunite with former Bayern teammate Mathys Tel at Tottenham.
