In a report presented in Berlin, the German Federal Association of Parcel and Express Logistics (BPEX) revealed that the parcel and express market, known as the Kurier-, Express- und Paketmarkt (KEP), has shown robust growth in 2024, despite the challenging global economic environment. The total volume of shipments increased by 115 million, reaching approximately 4.29 billion, representing a 2.8 percent rise.
The overall revenue of the parcel industry rose by 4.1 percent, reaching nearly 27.6 billion euros. The BPEX emphasized that the parcel sector remains on a stable growth path, with the total number of employees in the industry increasing by 5,800, or 2.2 percent, to around 266,300 in 2024.
The private customer segment, driven by the growth of e-commerce, continued to expand, with a 5.5 percent increase in B2C shipments, accounting for 60 percent of all KEP shipments. In contrast, the B2B segment, which involves shipments from companies to companies, saw a 1.6 percent decline, mainly due to the weak domestic economy and demand.
The BPEX also forecast that, assuming current trends continue, the total volume of shipments is expected to reach 5.19 billion by 2030, with an average annual growth of 3.2 percent. The association predicts that the five-billion mark in parcel shipments could be reached as early as 2029.
