Data released Tuesday by the Statistical Federal Office (Destatis) indicates a rise in the cost of international air travel and package holidays. Ticket prices for international flights increased by 3.8 percent during the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
The most significant price increases were observed in economy class flights to European destinations, which saw a rise of 7.7 percent. Travelers heading to North America faced a 1.7 percent increase in prices for long-haul flights, while those traveling to Central America experienced a smaller rise of 0.3 percent. Conversely, flights to South America saw a decrease of 3.0 percent and to Africa a drop of 4.6 percent. The largest price reduction occurred for flights to Asia and Australia, declining by 5.8 percent.
Domestic flights within Germany experienced a more substantial increase than international flights, rising by 5.0 percent during the first half of 2025 compared to the previous year.
Holidaymakers also saw a rise in the cost of package tours. Average prices for package holidays abroad increased by 5.4 percent during the first six months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. Notable increases were recorded for trips to Turkey (10.1 percent), Egypt (8.3 percent) and Greece (6.4 percent). Price increases were comparatively smaller for popular destinations such as the Canary Islands (4.4 percent) and the Balearic Islands (1.9 percent).
The rate of price increases for domestic package holidays was more moderate, rising by 2.2 percent during the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
