The Indian government has announced the initiation of “Operation Sindoor” to target “terrorist infrastructure” in Pakistan and the Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The government stated in a statement that nine targets were taken into account and the measures were “focused, measured and non-escalatory.” No military installations of Pakistan were targeted and India showed “great restraint” in selecting the targets and executing the operation. The attack was carried out in response to a deadly attack by militants on tourists in the Indian-administered Kashmir last month. Pakistan has announced its intention to retaliate at a time and place of its choosing. A spokesperson for the Pakistani military called the attack “shameful and cowardly” and declared that all of Pakistan’s air force jets were in the air. Reports suggest that Indian forces launched attacks with rockets at three locations in Pakistan. There were also reports of intense firing and loud explosions in the border regions of Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Relations between India and Pakistan have deteriorated significantly following the deadly attack on tourists last month. India accuses Pakistan of supporting cross-border terrorism, which Islamabad firmly denies.
