In the new coalition committee of CDU, CSU and SPD, there will be eleven men and only one woman, Minister of Labor Bärbel Bas (SPD). This was first reported by the portal “Table Media.” Now, the SPD is receiving sharp criticism. “The representation in the coalition committee reflects in a frightening way the value of women’s lives in the political mainstream” said Ulrike Häfner, head of the SPD women, to the “Spiegel.” With this appointment, the committee is “an image of a politics that pretends to be progressive, but ignores the gender hierarchy” so Häfner. “The basis of power to correct political decisions that affect women and men differently cannot be reduced to one person plus goodwill.” Thus, the committee ranks among “for women deterrent examples, wanting to act decisively and effectively in male-dominated bodies” says Häfner. “Bärbel Bas can be sure of our full support.” The SPD women demand parity in the staffing of top positions. The working group automatically includes all female members of the SPD, currently around 150,000 women.
