German politician Canan Bayram, a member of the Bundestag for the Greens, announced that she will vote against the debt package agreed upon by the Union, SPD and Greens last week. According to Bayram, the package restricts the future parliament’s ability to make decisions too much.
Bayram criticized the inclusion of the goal to be climate-neutral by 2045, calling it “greenwashing” because it does not provide a framework for political decisions. She fears that significant progress in climate protection will not be achieved in the next four years.
Bayram expressed her concern that the special debts in the budget will be repaid, which she believes will come at the expense of recipients of citizen’s benefits and individuals with a migration background. She stated that she cannot and will not support the package and considers the entire process to be unworthy, as it involves rushing the decision and potentially being accused of trickery.
