One in Four German Students Let Machines Do the Work

A recent survey conducted by the German IT industry association, Bitkom, has shed light on the attitudes of German schoolchildren towards the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in their academic work.

According to the findings, nearly a quarter of the students (23 percent) admitted to using AI to complete their homework, with a significant portion of the remaining respondents divided on the issue. While 53 percent of the students believe that the use of AI in school would benefit them, a substantial 48 percent think that AI would make them less intelligent.

The survey also revealed that a notable number of students consider AI to be more effective in certain aspects of school life than their parents, teachers, or even themselves. A third of the respondents (31 percent) believe that AI can help them with their homework better than their parents and 23 percent think that AI can explain complex topics more effectively than their teachers.

The survey, conducted by Bitkom Research, polled 502 students aged 14 to 19, including 327 users of AI technology, via telephone interviews.
