City Mayor Dieter Reiter announced the closure, stating the threat is linked to a fire in northern Munich where authorities have discovered improvised explosive devices. A letter from the same suspected individual prompted officials to take the situation with utmost seriousness. Reiter emphasized that the risk involved was deemed too significant to allow the festival to continue.

A large-scale operation involving fire and police services has been underway in the Lerchenau district since this morning. The operation follows a fire at a single-family home, in which at least one person has tragically died. Specialist units have been deployed to safely disarm the discovered explosive devices. Authorities are continuing their investigation.
