Official Warns Against Publicly Debating Ukraine's Military Aid

German Government Official Criticizes Public Debate on Potential Taurus Missile Delivery to Ukraine

The head of the Chancellor’s Office, Thorsten Frei, has expressed disappointment with the public discussion surrounding the potential delivery of Taurus missiles to Ukraine. In an interview with the German television channel “Welt”, Frei emphasized that the public debate is unnecessary, as it is a matter of strategic commitment rather than a public discussion of specific weapon systems.

“We have agreed not to discuss this on the public market anymore, but rather to focus on our clear commitment to supporting Ukraine in countering Russian aggression” Frei stated. He warned against public debate over specific weapon systems, as it would only serve to inform Russian President Putin of Germany’s arsenal and intentions.

While Frei did not rule out the possibility of a Taurus missile delivery in the future, he made it clear that the decision would be made based on military necessities, not public opinion. “Every weapon at its time and in line with the respective military challenges” he said, adding that the public debate is unnecessary and would only hinder the effective support of Ukraine.
