‘Offensive for More Security’

'Offensive for More Security'

To prevent attacks, the CSU plans to launch an offensive for more security in Germany after winning a federal election. As reported by the “Rheinische Post” (Friday edition) citing a paper for the CSU’s Bundestag members at the Seeo monastery in Upper Bavaria, the plan is to significantly expand video surveillance and apply facial recognition systems at public danger spots.

Germany was hit by three major attacks last year in Mannheim, Solingen, and Magdeburg. “Preventing such attacks in the future must be the top priority of politics now” the paper says. This includes an offensive in public security. “Our streets and squares must become noticeably and visibly safer, with an expansion of video surveillance at public danger spots and facial recognition systems at train stations, airports, and other hotspots of crime to identify serious offenders.”

Additionally, the plan is to enable the use of AI-based and cross-procedural police research and analysis platforms. “Our police officers need the best equipment and competences, not general suspicion. That’s why we will abolish the federal police commissioner again” the paper says.
