Nvidia's CEO to Meet with German Government, AI Gigafactory Plans on the Table

Berlin, Germany – In a series of high-level meetings, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is set to meet with Jensen Huang, the CEO of US-based chip manufacturer Nvidia, in Berlin next week. According to reports from the German newspaper Handelsblatt, citing government and industry sources, the meeting is expected to take place alongside a discussion with Vice-Chancellor Lars Klingbeil of the Social Democratic Party (SPD).

Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, is reportedly planning a week-long European tour, with appearances at the Tech Week in London on Monday and the Vivatech technology conference in Paris on Tuesday. Industry insiders believe that Huang’s talks may revolve around initiatives for the development of computing infrastructure in Europe.

The European Union has issued a tender for the construction of “AI Gigafactories” – large data centers suitable for training massive language models like the GPT family from OpenAI. Each of the planned four to five facilities is expected to utilize over 100,000 specialized graphics processing units, or GPUs, with Nvidia being the market leader. In their coalition agreement, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the SPD have agreed to build a similar “AI Gigafactory” in Germany.
