NRW's Wüst Praises Merz as Second Chancellor from State After Adenauer

Nordrhein-Westfalen’s Ministerpräsident Hendrik Wüst (CDU) has congratulated the newly elected federal chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU). Wüst told the “Rheinische Post” (Wednesday): “Friedrich Merz is now – after Konrad Adenauer – the second federal chancellor from North Rhine-Westphalia.” He is looking forward to working together with the new government in the coming years. “The people of Germany and our partners in Europe have pinned their hopes on a stable federal government. In the face of epochal challenges, it will be up to each and every member of the coalition.” Wüst expressed optimism: “The new federal government has a solid foundation to work on: The coalition agreement is an agreement of reason in times of worldwide irrationality. This coalition agreement focuses on the essentials and makes course corrections to lead our country out of the crisis and make it safer.” However, Wüst also added that “the new federal government must work hard on issues of trust in democracy and the effectiveness of the state.” As a state government, they will ensure that the new federal government keeps its promises, Wüst said. “We will push the federal government, as we have done in previous years, if necessary, to implement agreed measures quickly. We need quick growth impulses for new economic growth and secure jobs. The fear of losing a job must give way to new confidence that the political center can solve problems. The new federal government must now get down to business. The work begins now.
