‘No Way to Exclude Them from a Poverty-Proof Wage’

'No Way to Exclude Them from a Poverty-Proof Wage'

German Social Democratic Party’s Secretary General Tim Klüssendorf has rejected the demand of the German Farmers’ Association to reduce the minimum wage for seasonal workers to 80 percent.

In an interview with the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland”, Klüssendorf emphasized, “We will not accept that in any way. It’s about the right of people to earn a poverty-free wage through their work. We cannot exclude seasonal workers from that.”

Klüssendorf also dismissed the argument of the Farmers’ Association’s President Joachim Rukwied, who claimed that most seasonal workers do not have their permanent residence in Germany. “We should not make a distinction” said Klüssendorf, highlighting the party’s stance on the issue.
