Alexander Dobrindt, the chairman of the CSU-Landesgruppe, has announced that the Union will also prevent an AfD politician from occupying a vice-president position in the future Bundestag. “I still believe it is right to deny the AfD access to the Bundestag’s presidency” Dobrindt told the newspapers of the Mediengruppe Bayern.
“Right-wing parties in Europe have in common that they want to destroy parliamentarism from within. One should not give them any levers to do so.” The CSU politician, whose faction sits next to the AfD in the Bundestag, said, “I can only say: This party is already extremely unpleasant. The outbursts in the parliament are not only unsettling – to be honest, I find it even repulsive.”
He will not change the seating arrangement, which the coalition had altered, however. In response to the corresponding question, Dobrindt said, “And who would we put there? Those who organically belong there are Sahra Wagenknecht and her BSW. Both parties would not only find themselves in terms of content, but also as neighbors in the seating arrangement, if the Bundestag were set up like a roundel. I assume, however, that the BSW will not enter the Bundestag and the plenary hall will remain as it is. And whether the FDP will be there again, is completely open.
