Concerns have emerged within the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) regarding the allocation of government funding to non-governmental organizations (NGOs). CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann stated his expectation that Education Minister Karin Prien (CDU) will reconsider a recent increase in funding directed towards certain NGOs.
Linnemann expressed strong reservations, indicating that any funding provided to organizations exhibiting even a trace of antisemitism, Islamist extremism, far-right ideologies, or far-left radicalism is unacceptable and must be halted. He conveyed to “Bild am Sonntag” that he is confident Minister Prien shares this view.
While acknowledging that some programs already committed under existing agreements will continue, Linnemann affirmed that the CDU intends to address the issue further during the 2026 budget negotiations. This commitment signals an ongoing review of funding practices and a focus on ensuring alignment with the party’s standards for supported organizations.
