New Search Engine Unleashes Voting Power for Expats!

Yesterday in Berlin, the Greens launched a new search engine as part of their programmatic party conference, allowing Germans abroad to inform themselves about voting in the federal election by postal vote.

“The federal elections concern all German citizens, even if they live abroad. That’s why we want to make voting from abroad simpler”said Greens’ parliamentary group vice-chair Sven Giegold to the Rheinische Post. “With our search engine, we encourage German citizens abroad to exercise their right to vote.”

These federal elections will also decide on a more global Germany. “Germans abroad can now co-decide whether Germany will continue to uphold international law and strengthen international institutions in the future”Giegold emphasized.

The website features links to all approximately 11,000 municipalities in Germany, as well as instructions on how to request a postal vote for both registered and unregistered voters. Additionally, the site provides a guide on how to quickly return the completed voting materials, ensuring that the submitted vote is received by the relevant authority by the deadline of February 23, 18:00.

The Greens developed this search engine in collaboration with the local Greens in Washington D.C. The website was created by volunteers who compiled all the information and links to the municipalities manually.
