The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has showcased new air defense missile systems this week. According to the Iranian news agency Tasnim, the defensive weapons were presented to the commander of the IRGC Navy, Alireza Tangsiri, during his visit to several bases in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf on Saturday.
During the visit, Tangsiri was quoted as saying that the main strategy of the IRGC Navy this year is to enhance and improve its combat capabilities. He also warned adversaries of his country against “mistakes”. The Iran, he emphasized, keeps a close eye on the enemy in the Strait of Hormuz and is in a state of high readiness.
According to Tasnim, the newest air defense missile systems are stationed on three islands: the Greater and Lesser Tunb, as well as Abu Musa. They can destroy targets at a distance of up to 600 kilometers. Further details about the capabilities of the new defensive weapons are not publicly disclosed, but some of the agency’s published photos show the systems in action.
