Berlin, Germany – In a move aimed at strengthening its transatlantic ties, the German government is set to appoint a new coordinator, according to sources cited by Politico. The cabinet is expected to greenlight the appointment, along with several other personnel changes, at its meeting on Wednesday.
Among the proposed appointments, SPD member of parliament Metin Hakverdi is reportedly in line to become the new transatlantic coordinator, a role that will facilitate cooperation between Germany and the United States.
Additionally, Lars Castellucci, a SPD member of the Bundestag, is said to be the preferred candidate for the position of human rights commissioner. Knut Abraham, a CDU member of parliament, is expected to take on the role of Polish envoy.
Meanwhile, CDU state minister Gunther Krichbaum is likely to be appointed as the coordinator for German-French cooperation, while his party colleague Thomas Rachel is in the running for the position of commissioner for religious and philosophical freedom.
