In the 33rd matchday of the 1. Bundesliga, FC Bayern Munich secured a 2-0 victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach at home. The first real chance came in the eighth minute for Borussia, as Lainer’s seemingly cross flew towards the far post, but Neuer managed to save the shot. In the 23rd minute, the former World Cup goalkeeper was again called upon, but managed to prevent a potential own goal from Kane and Dier.
FC Bayern struggled offensively for a long time, but eventually found the opening in the 31st minute when Olise’s shot after a beautiful solo run beat Omlin and went into the net. On the other side, Hack attempted a low shot in the 40th minute but was also denied by Neuer. The Bavarians led by a narrow margin at halftime.
In the second half, Seoane’s side showed more pressure but were unlucky. Reitz attempted a header in the 60th minute, but Neuer once again displayed his skills. The Bayern players tried to set up Thomas Müller for a goal in his last home game, but his shot in the 68th minute missed the target.
Cvancara had the biggest chance for Gladbach in the 79th minute, but Neuer saved the shot. Stöger attempted a volley in the 80th minute but was also denied by the goalkeeper. Olise finally settled the game in the 90th minute when he received a perfect pass from Sané and scored with a flick of the outside of his foot. The game ended shortly after.
With this victory, FC Bayern Munich secured a 79-point lead in the league, while Borussia Mönchengladbach, now in ninth place, has effectively buried any hopes of European qualification.
